History

his mansion used to be a homeplace of an artist Sofia Kuvshinnikova, the prototype of the main character in A.P. Chekhov's story "The Grasshopper." Her close friend, Isaac Levitan, was a frequent guest of hers.

Design and implementation period

Concept

The main task was to preserve the history and adapt the estate to a new function — the an office of an international law firm. The restoration work was carried out over two years, preceded by meticulous research. Thorough efforts were made to recreate the appearance and spirit of the 19th-century mansion.

The central feature of a reception area is a chandelier designed by the Head of Bureau Marianna Petrenko in collaboration with an Italian factory Terzani.

Solution

Restored elements include: Alfrei paintings from an early 19th century, a plaster rosette on the ceiling from the second half of the 19th century, historic doors from the 19th century, a historic newspaper from 1897 that was the backing for wallpaper, and two grisaille rosettes. Historical walls exhibit the place where cultural layers of the last three centuries are presented.

The project was published in various media and was nominated for numerous awards.
